I'm back

I have been a little negligent in my blog of late. I have been somewhat busy, but I should've posted this last week. I just didn't have the images together and I get distracted with other unimportant things like sports, work, and procrastination.

This work, continued from my abstract series, goes back to the square format within the frame. It is based on memories of someone, and not solely on the individuals personality. The other works which have a circular style in the previous posts are meant to show the character of the person through it's color, composition, and depth.

2014 Self-portrait

Another Friday here. I felt I should post something before I head to work.

Well today's post is the first painting I completed in 2014 WOOT! I will be caught up soon! I am excited to show this work. It is a self-portrait I worked on for two years. It all started with a ticket I picked up off the floor for the Lucian Freud Exhibit(2012). It was the first exhibit I ever worked. I figured I could use it for a piece and started collecting tickets throughout the year from my job. When I decided to make a self-portrait with the tickets, I knew I needed a lot more for what I was going to do. I got lots of help from awesome friends after they found out what I was doing! They are the best!! A big thanks to y'all who helped. I couldn't have done it without y'all.

I took my picture at work in the gallery which currently displays Jenny Holzer's piece, "Kind of Blue." I feel it works well with the color of the tickets and my mood at work sometimes lol. I cut down the tickets in three different sizes, one inch squares, half inch squares, and quarter inch squares. So many grueling months of cutting out squares. Each size has its own layer surface among many other thin layers of medium that hold colors and lines. I hope yall enjoy the process pictures. I have so many photos of everything, but I like to show my process. It's my favorite thing about making work.
